The Mid-American Conference announced their television schedule and game times for the first three weeks of the 2024 football season on Thursday, May 30.
The University of Akron football team, led by third-year head coach Joe Moorhead, will open the 2024 season in Columbus, Ohio, against Ohio State on August 31 at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.
In week two, the Zips travel to Piscataway, New Jersey, to face Rutgers at noon on September 7 on the Big Ten Network.
The Blue and Gold’s home debut is slated for week three at InfoCision Stadium, when the Zips visit Colgate on September 14 at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
Game timings for the Zips’ midweek #MACtion contests have also been confirmed. Akron will play back-to-back road games at Northern Illinois on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m., with viewing options to be announced on ESPN2, ESPNU, or CBS Sports Network.
The Wagon Wheel game takes place at rival Kent State. On Tuesday, November 19, the Zips will defend their 2023 Wagon Wheel victory against the Golden Flashes at Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio at 7, 7:30, or 8 p.m. (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, or CBS Sports Network).
The regular season finale against Toledo at InfoCision Stadium on Tuesday, November 26 at 7 p.m. on ESPN2 or ESPN+ has been finalized.
All remaining game times and television broadcasts will be revealed 12 days before the scheduled game. Games will be broadcast on ESPN platforms (ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU/ESPN+/ESPN3) and CBS Sports Network. The game dates and times are subject to change.
The MAC East and West Divisions have been eliminated under the new MAC scheduling scheme. The top two teams in conference winning percentage will play in the MAC Football Championship Game at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.
This new approach will allow each team to face all 11 conference opponents at least once in a three-year cycle, both at home and away. Furthermore, the new format will have protected opponents depending on geographical location and rivalries. The whole 2024 football schedule will be revealed at the end of February.
