UConn women’s basketball will face Iowa State in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase.
The Huskies add the Cyclones, an estimated top-15 preseason team, to their non-conference schedule.
UConn women’s basketball announced on Wednesday that it will play Iowa State in the 2024 Basketball Hall of Fame Invesco QQQ Women’s Showcase, as the Huskies’ non-conference schedule for the upcoming season takes shape. The game will be part of a doubleheader at Mohegan Sun Arena on Tuesday, December 17th. The showcase, now in its 11th year, will also feature a game between 2023 National Champions LSU and another Big East opponent Seton Hall.
“We always look forward to having the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase on our program. It allows fans from various parts of the state to witness our squad in person. We usually have excellent competition, and I believe it will be an opportunity to witness some really outstanding matches in Connecticut,” stated Geno Auriemma about the game.
UConn is 2-1 all-time against the Cyclones. The teams last played in the 2010 Sweet 16, which UConn won 74-36 en route to its seventh national championship.
Iowa State finished 21-12 during the 2023-24 season and progressed to the second round of the 2024 NCAA tournament. Center Audi Crooks, who starred in the postseason of her rookie season, including a 40-point performance in the first round, returns for her second season with the Cyclones. Crooks led the squad in scoring last season, averaging 19.2 points per game.
Iowa State also returns fifth-year point guard Emily Ryan, who averaged nearly seven assists per game last season, as well as Addy Brown, the team’s second-leading scorer and another freshman star from the 2023 class. The Cyclones are considered to be a preseason top-15 team and a valuable addition to the Huskies’ non-conference schedule.
UConn also announced a home-and-home series with Southern California earlier this month, which will begin in Storrs during the 2024 season. South Carolina and Notre Dame are also among the top non-conference matchups. UConn still needs two more seats to fill, in addition to a multi-team event. In addition to Big East games, the Huskies will play South Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Louisville.
