McDavid, 27, was discovered unresponsive on Wednesday night and was taken to the hospital.
The incident happened when the group of pals went on a private excursion close to Jasper National Park. Before being rescued, McDavid reportedly fell into an icy lake and stayed underwater for a few minutes. Shortly after being rescued from the icy water, he suffered from severe hypothermia, which resulted in a seizure and cardiac arrest.
McDavid received vital life-saving treatment as soon as emergency services were summoned, and he was then taken to the University of Alberta Hospital. After being stabilized, he was brought to the intensive care unit and is still being closely monitored there.
Ken Holland, general manager of the Oilers, updated the media today regarding McDavid’s health. “Connor is stable right now and getting excellent care from his doctors. Although his development in the last 24 hours has been encouraging, Holland stated that he is still receiving treatment and observation in the intensive care unit. “We appreciate the emergency personnel’s prompt action and the overwhelming support from hockey players and the hockey community as a whole.”
The NHL was shocked to learn about McDavid’s medical situation, and many people expressed their support and concern. McDavid, who is renowned for his exceptional skill and leadership, had a health crisis that serves as a sobering reminder that life is unpredictable, even for elite athletes.
Jay Woodcroft, head coach of the Oilers, stressed that McDavid’s recuperation takes precedence over any hockey-related worries. “Connor’s health and providing for his family are our top priorities at this time. Hockey can wait,” said Woodcroft. “We all hope for Connor’s full recovery; he is a fighter.”
