Coaches of Army football were much more interested in Lincoln Dunn after his stellar spring track season concluded his high school athletic career.
Dunn ran a 100-meter dash in 10.36 seconds, setting a school record. As of early June, Dunn’s time was tied for the ninth-fastest time in the nation this spring. The senior from Melissa, Texas, placed sixth at the state competition and won the 100-meter district and regional titles.
Fans and army coaches will have to wait for Dunn’s gifts to come to West Point. Before attending the academy straight away, Dunn, a Mormon and member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, is doing a two-year mission in Hamburg, Germany.
“I think religion is really important,” Dunn remarked. “Going to church has always been a big part of my life; I grew up going every Sunday.”
Because of Melissa’s success, Dunn played in just three full games but caught 67 receptions for 843 yards and 11 touchdowns. Dunn stated the decision was well thought out.
According to Dunn, “it was a difficult decision.” “It is difficult because I have put in a lot of effort to reach this point, but I have to wait two years to finish it.”
Dunn was also offered by the Air Force, and will effectively now be a part of the Army’s 2026 recruitment class. He claimed that although the Army coaches accepted Dunn’s decision, they would have preferred for him to go straight to West Point and accept his mission.
The Army’s 2024 recruiting class is shown here, with information on whether they will be attending Army Prep or going straight to West Point. 2024 commits, if your location is unknown, please message us on Twitter at X @salinterdonato to let us know.
