Taulia Tagovailoa, brother of Dolphins quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa signs with CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Taulia Tagovailoa is putting his NFL career on hold and moving north.
Tagovailoa, a rookie from Maryland and the younger brother of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, has joined with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats practice squad, the organisation announced on Monday.
Tagovailoa was undrafted this spring, so the signing comes after that. He was later invited to the rookie minicamps of the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals.
The 24-year-old Tagovailoa began his career at Alabama, his brother’s alma mater, but transferred to Maryland, where he became the Big Ten’s all-time leader in passing yards with 11,256 over a four-year tenure as the Terrapins’ starter. He had more than 3,000 yards in each of his past three seasons and was named second-team All-Big Ten as a junior and senior.
Tagovailoa’s 5-foot-10, 200-pound stature is on the short side, but if he can make it in the CFL, he may have another chance at a roster position in the NFL.
