The NFL launched a tampering investigation against the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this spring after the team signed All-Pro running back Saquon Barkley away from the division rival New York Giants.
Barkley signed with Philadelphia shortly after the legal tampering period for NFL free agency began in March. It had been anticipated prior to then that he might land in Philadelphia, adding another degree of potential meddling. Comments Penn State head coach James Franklin’s comments at the time raised some eyebrows in the NFL and could lead to the league starting an investigation.
Barkley, 27, signed a three-year, $37.75 million contract with the Eagles in March after spending his first six seasons in the NFL with the Giants. This season, the Penn State graduate amassed 1,242 total yards and 10 touchdowns in 14 games. He’ll be a potent backfield threat alongside Jalen Hurts.
