Lakers News: At the Los Angeles Sports Awards, LeBron James’ NBA scoring record-breaking performance ranks as the top sports moment of 2023………………………….
LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers was one of many players honored at the 19th annual Los Angeles Sports Awards, which was held recently.
The El Segundo Little League All-Stars winning the Little League World Series over Curacao and LeBron James surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time greatest scorer tied for the top overall rank in the LA Sports Awards’ top-10 sports moments of 2023.
LeBron’s moment came during the Lakers’ game against the Oklahoma City Thunder in February of last year. James drove to the middle of the lane and made a fadeaway jumper in the third quarter of the game to set a new record of 38,388 points. For 39 years, Abdul-Jabbar held the record for most points scored in the NBA, and many people believed it would never be surpassed.
Since then, LeBron has broken that record even more. During the Lakers’ game against the Denver Nuggets, he became the first NBA player to achieve 40,000 career points. As for where that final total will stand when he departs from basketball, nobody knows.
The historic signings of Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani by the Los Angeles Dodgers came in third place among the LA Sports Awards’ best moments of 2023. The 2023 College Football National Championship game will be played at SoFi Stadium, which came in fourth place. LAFC winning the MLS Cup Final completed the top five.
Sixth place went to Los Angeles Angels player Shohei Ohtani, who won his second AL MVP award, and seventh place went to the Lakers, who won the NBA’s first-ever In-Season Tournament. The Los Angeles Clippers acquiring James Harden, the Los Angeles Kings retiring Dustin Brown’s jersey, and Freddie Freeman breaking several Dodgers records rounded out the top ten.
Along with Ohtani, Juju Watkins, a guard for USC women’s basketball, was also recognized that evening as Sportsperson of the Year. Coach of the Year went to Steve Cherundolo of the LAFC, Executive of the Year went to Andrew Friedman of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Lifetime Achievement Award went to famous sports psychologist, author, and sports advocate Dr. Steven Ungerleider, posthumously.
LeBron James of the Lakers and SpringHill Company will create three more History Channel documentaries.
LeBron James, the standout player for the Lakers, has undoubtedly had an equally significant impact off the court as he has on it, which is an amazing accomplishment. James’ SpringHill Company just said that their collaboration with The History Channel will continue.
Three more films for The History Channel were to be produced by the business, the first of which would focus on Jesse Owens and be named “Triumph: Jesse Owens and the Berlin Olympics.” A third documentary’s topic is still undetermined, but another one on Jim Thorpe is anticipated.
