Given that both Alabama and Georgia are SEC teams and have been the top teams in the sport for the past five years, they have emerged as two of college football’s most underappreciated rivals. Georgia and Alabama do not play each other on the field annually.
Nevertheless, they compete with one another in recruiting off the field. The Crimson Tide have already fallen behind the Bulldogs since head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement, and on Friday, Alabama lost one of their former commits to Georgia.
Mason Short Loses For Alabama
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3.com, Mason Short, a four-star offensive lineman, has committed to Georgia.
Short de-committed from Alabama on January 16th, and 247sports.com ranks him as the 16th-best interior offensive lineman in the 2025 class.
Georgia Is sweeping up Players for the Crimson Tide
Saban’s retirement coincided with Short’s decommitment, therefore Short’s only reason for playing for the Crimson Tide was Saban.
However, I don’t blame Georgia for cleaning up the Crimson Tide decommits as of late. With Kirby Smart, the best college football coach in the history of the sport, the Bulldogs have won two of the last three titles. Saban is no longer with us.
Under new head coach Kalen DeBoer, Alabama should still be very good, but before players start lining up and wanting to return, he needs to show it on the field.
