Malik Williams has committed to the Raptors for the duration of the season after his 10-day contract expired on Friday, according to a tweet from Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca. Murphy notes that the new agreement only applies to Sunday’s game and does not include 2024 or 2025.
In his first ten days with Toronto, Williams made two starts and six appearances in games. He shot 22% from the floor and averaged 2.2 points and 5.7 rebounds in 15.8 minutes a night. In just 24 minutes of action on Wednesday against Brooklyn, he scored seven points and pulled down 14 rebounds, making it his finest game to date.
The 25-year-old center, who was not selected out of Louisville in 2022, is now making his NBA debut. Before beginning this season with Miami’s G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, he played one season in Poland. In 42 NBAGL regular season games with Sioux Falls, including the Showcase Cup, he averaged 10.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocked shots.
Williams’ future with the team is in doubt following the Raptors’ season-ending loss to Miami tomorrow. Given the terms of his new deal, it appears he left a good impression on the front office, increasing his chances of joining Toronto’s Summer League squad in Las Vegas.
