Paul Skenes tells the story once again in the Pirates Power Rankings………..
This past weekend, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cubs three games to one at Wrigley Field to win their first series since early May. On Friday, Paul Skenes threw six scoreless innings, displaying the skill that made the Pirates choose him first overall in the previous draft. In a move that is equally promising, Pittsburgh’s bats finally broke out of their month-long rut, providing Skenes and the rest of the rotation with some run assistance.
Despite their 4-3 record and barely.500 week total, all of the main power rankings commended the positive progress and moved them up in the previous week’s ranks. What they said was as follows.
- The Pirates were moved from No. 22 to No. 20 by MLB.com, who also praised Paul Skenes and Jared Jones for their ongoing performance.
- The Pirates were ranked No. 20 by CBS Sports, which also advised fans to “get excited” about the potential rise of the 2023 first overall choice.
- Despite their poor performance, Bleacher Report claims that Pittsburgh’s renovation is almost complete.
- They placed the Pirates at No. 19 as a result.
- More than any other ranking this season, USA Today’s opinion of the Pirates has not changed. They still had to give Pittsburgh credit for their performance against the Cubs, as they moved them up to No. 21 from No. 22 last week.
- The Pirates were not considered worthy of the top third of Major League Baseball by FOX Sports, which only lists the top 10 teams.
