Josh Bell’s walk-off single helps the Marlins defeat the Brewers…………..
In the bottom of the tenth inning, Josh Bell hit a walk-off single to help the host Miami Marlins overcome the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 on Monday night.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two outs, Otto Lopez of Miami blooped an RBI single into right field to force extra innings.
Joe Ross, the Brewers’ starter, was limited to just one inning on Monday, meaning that the bullpen had to handle the most of the workload. Due to a low back pain, he departed the game before the second one.
After the first five relievers combined for seven shutout innings, seven more came in. But Mitch White (1-1) took the loss after recording only one out in the tenth inning after Trevor Megill blew a save in the ninth.
Tanner Scott (4-4) became victorious.
For Milwaukee, Christian Yelich stole home run, while Andruw Monasterio’s solo drive in the fifth inning scored the other run.
Yelich noted that after every pitch, Marlins catcher Nick Fortes was giving the ball back to Ryan Weathers, giving his club a 1-0 lead owing to Monasterio’s home run. In the top of the sixth, Yelich doubled the Brewers’ advantage by waiting for Fortes’ throw after a strike that brought the count to 0-2 on Willy Adames.
It wasn’t until Monasterio overcame Weathers that he let up a hit. Weathers pitched seven innings, giving up two hits, one earned run, and no runs overall. He got three walks and eight strikeouts.
Miami didn’t score any runs until the seventh inning, when Bell walked to start the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. The Marlins trailed 2-1 after Jake Burger took a walk and Nick Gordon singled to bring Bell home.
Jake Bauers hit a drive to right that would have scored Monasterio to give Milwaukee some insurance in the top of the ninth with two outs and him on first, but it bounced over the wall for a ground-rule double. William Contreras flied out to end the inning after Blake Perkins had reached base via walk.
For the Marlins, Bell and Gordon both finished with two hits. Monasterio led the Brewers with two.
