The Chicago Bulls are willing to offer DeMar DeRozan a new $40 million extension in free agency, but there is a catch.
DeMar DeRozan has stated that he wants to extend his contract with the Chicago Bulls, but it remains to be seen whether the franchise will offer him his final big salary.
According to Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic, the Chicago Bulls are considering extending DeMar DeRozan’s contract for two years and $40 million, but the 34-year-old prefers a longer contract.
“The Bulls would be pleased to re-sign DeRozan for two years. DeRozan’s side would surely prefer more security. “The Bulls have a habit of liberally attaching player options to contracts, so that carrot could come into play with DeRozan’s deal as well,” Mayberry wrote in his most recent piece.
“The financial amount will be substantial, potentially exceeding $40 million per year, but it is less significant to the Bulls’ long-term flexibility. “Chicago wants to keep DeRozan, but with a reasonable commitment,” he said.
DeMar DeRozan had another good season with the Chicago Bulls, averaging 24.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 48 percent from the floor in 79 regular-season games. He also led the NBA in minutes per game, averaging 37.8.
If neither party agrees to a new contract, DeMar DeRozan will become an unrestricted free agency in July. By then, he will be free to choose his next location.
DeMar DeRozan may want to return home to Los Angeles if it doesn’t work out with the Chicago Bulls.
DeMar DeRozan recently stated on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back show that he is considering joining the Los Angeles Lakers.
However, there are no indications that the Los Angeles Lakers are interested in signing DeMar DeRozan this offseason. Depending on their free agency status, he could end up playing for the Los Angeles Clippers instead.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Los Angeles Clippers may elect to bring in a six-time NBA All-Star if Paul George departs.
